Victoria and Albert Museum
Museum of Art and Culture
The worlds largest museum of decorative arts and design. It has large and comprehensive collections of ceramics, glass, textiles, jewellery and furniture. Collections represent five thousand years of history up to the present day and cover all cultures of the globe.
The museum has its origins in the Great Exhibition of 1851. A number of the exhibits were purchased for the new museum which opened in 1852. The original name of the museum was the Museum of Manufacture being renamed the Victoria and Albert at Queen Victorias last public engagement in May 1899.
The building itself is quite spectacular never mind the dazzling exhibits contained within. Entry is free.
